Week 4 of the NFL season kicks off Thursday night in Green Bay where the Packers will take on the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field. While the national anthem protests around the league are still a hot topic, there still is football to be played. Green Bay is coming off a come-from-behind win over Cincinnati and the Bears got their first win of the season last week, a rather impressive 23-17 win over Pittsburgh. The Packers defense is going to have to tighten up against a Chicago running game that is eighth in the NFL averaging over 121 yards per game. Bing and Cortana say Green Bay will pack the victory with 72% chance.
The surprising Lions (2-1) lost for the first time last week when an apparent Golden Tate last-second touchdown was waved off. Detroit travels to Minnesota on Sunday where they won last year in overtime. Detroit has beaten the Vikings four of the last six times the two teams have played. The Minnesota offense exploded last week with 34 points in a win over Tampa Bay and Cortana leans towards Vikings giving them 52% probability of winning.
Most of the NFC South will cross over and take on the AFC East. New Orleans, which finally got on track with a 34-13 win over Carolina last week, travels to Miami to face the 1-1 Dolphins. Miami QB Jay Cutler has filled the gap left by Ryan Tannehill’s injury though the Dolphins offense was stymied by the New York Jets last week in a 20-6 loss. Cortana/Bing say it will be Saints taking with a victory with 64% chance.
Atlanta, the NFC’s lone remaining unbeaten, welcomes Buffalo to Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday. The Falcons once again have one of the most deadly offenses in the league. They will face a 2-1 Bills defense that right now is No. 1 in the NFL in scoring giving up just 12.1 points per game. Atlanta will have to load the box and stop Bills RB LeSean McCoy. Atlanta – 74% chance of winning according to Cortana.
Carolina, which was crushed by the Saints last week 34-13, faces another daunting task when the Panthers head to Foxborough to take on the New England Patriots. After their season-opening loss, the Patriots have put up 36 points in successive weeks and believed to win (77% chance). Tampa Bay hosts the mess that is the New York Giants. The Giants are winless mainly due to an offense that is awful. New York is last in the NFL in rushing (48.7 yards per game) and 31st in scoring (12.3). The return of Odell Beckham Jr. helped last week, but the Giants need to right the ship quickly and Cortana believes they will – chance of victory – 57%.
Out west in the NFC, winless San Francisco travels to Arizona (1-2). The Cardinals have had a rough go so far, but head coach Bruce Arians believes QB Carson Palmer is playing his best football. Arizona has won four straight over the Niners, who are 0-3. (Arizona to win – 67% chance). The surprising Rams (2-1) will get their first real test to see if they are for real when they face Dallas (2-1). The Cowboys have won the last three straight over the Rams dating back to 2011 and according to Cortana and Bing there is 70% chance it won’t change this time either.
The Sunday night game features the hapless Colts (1-2) traveling to CenturyLink Field to take on Seattle (1-2). The Colts would be 0-3 but they got a break when they faced Cleveland last week. The Seahawks can’t seem to generate much offense, but they did score 27 points in a loss to Tennessee last week. The normally stout defense gave up 420 total yards including 195 on the ground but Cortana believes they are the most likely team to win this week with 80% chance.
In the AFC, it’s one of the NFL’s best rivalries when Pittsburgh and Baltimore get together. Both teams enter Sunday’s game coming off a loss. The Steelers offense struggled against Chicago and the Ravens got pummeled in a 44-7 loss to Jacksonville. Pittsburgh has only won twice in the last eight games in the series. The Steelers haven’t won at M&T Bank Stadium since the 2012 season but this time could be different with 58% chance of winning for Steelers.
This week’s Monday night game features the unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs taking on Washington. The Redskins (2-1) have won two straight and recorded an impressive 27-10 win over Oakland last week. The Washington defense will face a mighty task in trying to stop the Chiefs offense which is averaging 31 points per game. Rookie Kareem Hunt is leading the NFL in rushing with 401 yards. Cortana believes in Chiefs with 61 % chance.
